This concentrated clinic will get you working toward that bomber combat roll you want to show off on the river. If you’ve just started paddling and want an introduction to rolling, or you’ve been trying to nail down your roll and need a bit of fine tuning this course is definitely for you.

A low student to instructor ratio ensures that whatever your skill level, you will get personalized attention in this clinic. You will also benefit from receiving different instruction styles that may clear up a confusing aspect of the rolling process.

Water Confidence for Paddlers (2 Nov 2026)

Tue, 03 Nov 2026 02:30:00 GMT

WATER CONFIDENCE FOR PADDLERS

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to help paddlers build comfort and confidence with being underwater in a kayaking setting. We will focus on developing calm, familiar responses to the underwater situations that can occur while paddling.

Through guided practice in the pool, participants will work through fear management systems and familiarize themselves with being underwater. We will practice recognizing what is happening, staying calm, and working through disorientation and unfamiliar positions in a controlled and supportive environment. There is no expected level of water comfort/confidence at the start of the course. The focus is on progression: wherever you are in your paddling journey, we will work with you from there.

Why take this course?

Become more comfortable being in or underwater in a kayaking setting
Practice staying calm and aware when upside down or disoriented
Explore different underwater positions and movements in a kayak
Develop personal strategies for managing discomfort or uncertainty underwater
Build confidence at your own pace, with coaching adapted to your current experience and comfort level

Details

Session 1 - Oct 19: We will start out in the Eastglen Classroom and have a 90-minute dryland session before moving to the pool. Meet at the tables just past the receptionist desk by 6:00 PM. There will be time to change into swimwear after the dryland session.
Session 2 - Nov 2: We will head right to the pool! Meet on the pool deck at 7:30 PM.

Stroke Improvement Course (4 Nov 2026)

Thu, 05 Nov 2026 03:00:00 GMT

Are you looking to improve your paddling technique? The UAPS Stroke Improvement Course aims to tune up your paddling, correct bad habits, and allows you to work smarter rather than harder. This is a great way to tune up your skills over the winter, and give you drills to work on at open sessions, so that you can move onto those bigger rivers that you’ve been waiting for!

Youth Paddling Progression Program (8 Nov 2026)

Sun, 08 Nov 2026 15:30:00 GMT

Youth Paddling Progression Program

Our Youth Paddling Progression Program (YouthAPS) is designed for young paddlers who are ready to develop their skills and build a strong foundation for continued progression in whitewater paddling.

Using the FUNdamentals from the Canoe Kayak Canada Passports to Paddlesports, participants will work through a progressive set of paddling skills, challenges, and activities. Sessions will use games and skill-based activities to develop boat control, paddle skills, balance, coordination, movement, and confidence on the water.

The focus is on building sport-specific physical literacy and developing capable, confident paddlers. Rather than simply learning individual skills, paddlers will be encouraged to apply those skills in different situations, solve movement challenges, and progressively take on more complex tasks as their abilities develop.

This program is a great foundation for young paddlers who want to continue progressing in kayaking and explore where paddling can take them — from recreational whitewater to future development programs and competitive disciplines.

Geared towards ages 8–12 (Younger paddlers who are particularly keen, older siblings who would like to be part of the program, or any other unique situation are welcome to email us at youth@paddleuaps.com to discuss whether the program is a good fit).

Polo (8 Nov 2026)

Mon, 09 Nov 2026 02:30:00 GMT

Drop In Polo

We look forward to having you all out for a fun, recreational game of polo in whitewater kayaks, open to anyone who has completed our Intro to Kayaking course (or has equivalent experience and a calm wet exit)

When you arrive, please help set-up the 2 nets starting at 7:30pm. We will break into 2 teams. Each team can have up to 5 players on the water at once, and sub players in at any time. Each player on the water must wear a helmet with a facemask (you are welcome to use your own helmet as long as it has a facemask).

Objective: The aim is to score in the net on the other side of the pool! The team with the most goals wins!

RULES (for our fun game!)

The game begins with a sprint. Both teams line up at their goal lines, and a referee throws the ball into the center of the pitch. The first player from each team races for possession.

After a goal is scored, the team that scored the goal must return to their own half as quickly as possible, at which point play can restart

You can hold the polo ball for up to 5-seconds only (then you must pass, dribble, or shoot)

A player must not maneuver their kayak with their hands or paddle while the ball is resting on their spray deck (the ball can never be on someone's deck during active play - even just sitting in one spot)

Paddles must not be used to contact other players, or be used in any way that endanger other players

Players must be careful not to T-bone other players

No illegal tackles. This includes: tackling someone who does not have ball possession, hacking, paddling within 1m of an opponent's body or hand, or deliberately causing an opponent to capsize. You are not allowed to impede/hold on to a player with your body or kit. You can also not lean on other players.

No paddle fouls. See rules for safety and fairness here.

No dangerous boat tackles. See rules for safety and fairness here.

If you foul another team, they get possession and space to make a pass.

If you are curious, there is a good overview of basic polo rules here: https://warwickcanoe.uk/polo/rules For those super keen to pursue it beyond UAPS, you can checkout the ICF rulebook here, and EWP's competitive polo program here.

Happy Paddling!

You’ll learn essential polo rules and skills - including throwing, catching, blocking, and dribbling - while also working on your stroke technique and boat control to build confidence for whitewater paddling.

Every session wraps up with a fun, friendly game so you can put your new skills to the test in a supportive environment!

Requirements: You should have completed a basics course and be comfortable with wet exits. All sessions will be played in plastic whitewater kayaks, and helmets with face cages are provided.

Sun, 15 Nov 2026 15:30:00 GMT

Playboating Polo Palooza

We look forward to having you all out for a fun, recreational game of polo in whitewater playboats, open to anyone with a cool, calm, collected wet exit. If you have your own playboat, you are welcome to bring it, if not, UAPS has enough to share! This is a recreational tournament - if you are looking for a competitive tournament in dedicated polo boats, EWP is hosting their premier fall tournament on Nov 7-8: https://register.teamsnap.com/form/JwSkUkXSjI2BUFtw4aEPd

We will divide registrants into teams based on experience. If you have never played, you will be on a team with other first-time players, and an experienced coach to help guide you through the game! We also have an Intro to Polo course starting the day before if you are interested. Each player on the water must wear a helmet with a facemask (you are welcome to use your own helmet as long as it has a facemask).

Happy Paddling!
