5. Professional Development Points (report annually, need 12 every 3 years) 

Instructions

  1. Vulnerable Sector Police Check:
    • You need to complete a Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check every 3 years or hold an active Nexus Card to be covered under our AWA insurance policy. VSC can be completed online for $15 here: https://www.policesolutions.ca/checks/services/edmonton/ Ensure you check off that you are a volunteer, and instructing youth (as many of our course participants are minors, and we often have minors attend club weekends). A regular police check is not sufficient, it must be the vulnerable sector one. Our treasurer will reimburse you for the fee, please forward your invoice to treasurer@paddleuaps.com
  2. Safe Sport training
    • Sign into your account at www.thelocker.coach.ca (you would have created this at your Lake Kayak Instructor training course). To complete Safe Sport, Select the following: Elearning > Multi Sport > Safe Sport. Enter ‘Canoe Kayak Canada’ as your sport, check off as a coach. After completing the course, take a screenshot before closing the tab as we have had issues with instructors receiving credit. Once you close the course tab, you should receive credit immediately. This can be viewed by going profile > certification > and scrolling down. If you did not receive credit email coach@coach.ca with your screenshot. 
  3. Making Ethical Decisions
    • MED training is included as part of Lake Instructor training. Once your Lake Instructor Training has been entered into the locker, you are able to take MED training for free. If you are not able to take it for free, please email your Lake Instructor Trainer as they may have forgot to credit you for the training. 
    • Sign into your account at www.thelocker.coach.ca (you would have created this at your Lake Kayak Instructor training course). To complete Making Ethical Decision evaluation, Select the following: Elearning > Multi Sport > NCCP Make Ethical Decisions (MED) Online Evaluatio > Begin. If prompted enter ‘Canoe Kayak Canada’ as your sport, check off as a coach. After completing the course, take a screenshot before closing the tab as we have had issues with instructors receiving credit. Once you close the evaluation tab, you should receive credit immediately. This can be viewed by going profile > certification > and scrolling down. If you did not receive credit email coach@coach.ca with your screenshot.

5. PD Points

  • Sign into your account at www.thelocker.coach.ca Select profile > certification > maintenance to check your PD points
  • Most certifications require 12 points over 3 years to maintain; if they expire you will need to redo your evaluation 
  • Please self report PD points by selecting self report on the left hand side. You can report  your instructing for the year (1 point/yr), any webinars attended (i.e. UAPS Instructor Debrief/Planning, UAPS Whitewater Safety Session worth 1pt/hour), & any swiftwater rescue (3 points) or first aid courses (3 points) taken over the past year
  • You can check your PD points under Maintenance and complete free NCPP points if needed (Making Head Way in Sport is a free online NCPP course worth 5 points)
