Don't forget to sign your kids up (all ages welcome) for the cross country ski camp at Pembina Nordic—it's going to be a blast! No fees for participating or for renting equipment thanks to the AWA Learn to Train Kid's Grant. All we ask is that you register ahead of time so we can make sure we have enough gear in the right sizes, and plenty of coaches to keep things rolling.
Parents, you're more than welcome to stick around and learn to ski (just fill out the form for yourself too if you're joining in), or feel free to drop them off and sneak away for some well-deserved adult time.
This isn’t your average ski camp! We’ll have loads of games and fun on the snow. If your kids are feeling competitive and want to level up their technique, Coach Joel—who’s raced all over Canada and Europe—will take them under his wing. If not, they'll join the "fun team" with Kate, Kelsey, and Lori (we promise, we’re almost as cool as Joel, and twice the fun). No experience is necessary, and we promise that if this is their first time on XC skis, they'll learn exactly why we love it so much!
Register here (please fill out for each kid joining)
The legendary Andy (who you might know from his epic first open boat descent from the Robson headwaters all the way to the ocean) has been out grooming trails for us since November 26. He’s set classic tracks on the stadium, ridge, and sprint loops. All loops are ready for skate skiing, and everything is in great shape except for the odd sneaky rock on the North loop. With more snow expected this week, trails should be in great shape by next Sunday. The singletrack for fat biking and snowshoeing was also packed yesterday! Pembina usually gets more snow than Edmonton, and since it’s less busy, the trails stay soft and fluffy (so if you take a tumble, it’s more like landing on a pillow).
Worried about the cold? Don’t be! We’ve got the cozy new Ski Lodge (with central heating, a kitchen, running water, two wood stoves, and flush toilets) and the historic log cabin for warming up. Plus, we’ll have outdoor fires at lunchtime (Lori will be sending out the lunch plans later in the week to registrants!). That said, please make sure you have mitts, toques, buffs, a winter coat, and ski pants for both yourself and the kids (and if you don't, send us a message and we will see what we can get together!). We can always take layers off & leave them behind, but don't want anyone getting cold.
We can't wait to see you all out there for some snowy fun!
