The UAPS Whitewater Progression Program (WPP) is the perfect progression for the adventuresome intermediate. This program will help build the skills and confidence to start exploring more exciting and challenging rivers.
Starting on the Kananaskis river with a solid weekend of skill development and playboating, we challenge paddlers with more difficult moves on a river that they are already familiar with. Building on this weekend, the course will move on to two more exciting weekends of river running in some of Alberta’s classic class III rivers.
Throughout the program there is a huge focus on group management and safety. Included in the course are dry-land sessions around the campfire where trip planning, gear selection, and kayaking theory will be discussed. We also introduce participants to the world of rope work and some of the tips and tricks to using your rescue gear.
Because the river difficulty steps up quite noticeably from the BDP, the cap that we place on registration is quite low. Enrollment is limited to 6 paddlers per season. This ensures an optimal instructor to student ratio where all participants receive focused attention.
Many of the paddlers who have completed this program have continued on to become leaders in the UAPS community.
