We look forward to having you all out for a fun, recreational game of polo in whitewater kayaks, open to anyone who has completed our Intro to Kayaking course (or has equivalent experience and a calm wet exit)
When you arrive, please help set-up the 2 nets starting at 7:30pm. We will break into 2 teams. Each team can have up to 5 players on the water at once, and sub players in at any time. Each player on the water must wear a helmet with a facemask (you are welcome to use your own helmet as long as it has a facemask).
Objective: The aim is to score in the net on the other side of the pool! The team with the most goals wins!
RULES (for our fun game!)
Happy Paddling!
Don't forget to sign your kids up (all ages welcome) for the cross country ski camp at Pembina Nordic—it's going to be a blast! No fees for participating or for renting equipment thanks to the AWA Learn to Train Kid's Grant. All we ask is that you register ahead of time so we can make sure we have enough gear in the right sizes, and plenty of coaches to keep things rolling.
Parents, you're more than welcome to stick around and learn to ski (just fill out the form for yourself too if you're joining in), or feel free to drop them off and sneak away for some well-deserved adult time.
This isn’t your average ski camp! We’ll have loads of games and fun on the snow. If your kids are feeling competitive and want to level up their technique, Coach Joel—who’s raced all over Canada and Europe—will take them under his wing. If not, they'll join the "fun team" with Kate, Kelsey, and Lori (we promise, we’re almost as cool as Joel, and twice the fun). No experience is necessary, and we promise that if this is their first time on XC skis, they'll learn exactly why we love it so much!
Register here (please fill out for each kid joining)
The legendary Andy (who you might know from his epic first open boat descent from the Robson headwaters all the way to the ocean) has been out grooming trails for us since November 26. He’s set classic tracks on the stadium, ridge, and sprint loops. All loops are ready for skate skiing, and everything is in great shape except for the odd sneaky rock on the North loop. With more snow expected this week, trails should be in great shape by next Sunday. The singletrack for fat biking and snowshoeing was also packed yesterday! Pembina usually gets more snow than Edmonton, and since it’s less busy, the trails stay soft and fluffy (so if you take a tumble, it’s more like landing on a pillow).
Worried about the cold? Don’t be! We’ve got the cozy new Ski Lodge (with central heating, a kitchen, running water, two wood stoves, and flush toilets) and the historic log cabin for warming up. Plus, we’ll have outdoor fires at lunchtime (Lori will be sending out the lunch plans later in the week to registrants!). That said, please make sure you have mitts, toques, buffs, a winter coat, and ski pants for both yourself and the kids (and if you don't, send us a message and we will see what we can get together!). We can always take layers off & leave them behind, but don't want anyone getting cold.
We can't wait to see you all out there for some snowy fun!
Location: Pembina Nordic Ski Club, 7010 Township Rd 494, Rocky Rapids, AB T7A 1A2
You must sign up for open sessions ahead of time in order to attend

** This basics course is offered during women-only facility time at Eastglen Pool, and is taught by women. Men are not allowed in the facility before, during, or after this class to respect the privacy of all participants. We will also be pausing the class for prayer. **
This is a women’s paddling program designed for women from underrepresented communities. Our goal is to introduce you to the sport, and give you the confidence and tools to get out on the water safely and comfortably. No prior experience in kayaks is required, nor is the ability to swim (lifejacket required and provided for those that cannot swim).
In this 6 hour course you will progress from learning the basics for getting onto the water:
to learning the basic paddling strokes that will get you where you need to go:
And finally, you will start to combine these strokes to paddle, and play lots of games!
All kayak related equipment is provided. This course takes place indoors, in a heated pool. You will need to wear your usual indoor swimming gear, and if you tend to get cold, consider wearing a rashguard. A nose plug and goggles are recommended, but not required.
Please find the location of Eastglen Pool here.
If you have any questions, please reach out to info@paddleuaps.com.

Are you looking to improve your paddling technique? The UAPS Stroke Improvement Course aims to tune up your paddling, correct bad habits, and allows you to work smarter rather than harder. This is a great way to tune up your skills over the winter, and give you drills to work on at open sessions, so that you can move onto those bigger rivers that you’ve been waiting for!
This concentrated clinic will get you working toward that bomber combat roll you want to show off on the river. If you’ve just started paddling and want an introduction to rolling, or you’ve been trying to nail down your roll and need a bit of fine tuning this course is definitely for you.
A low student to instructor ratio ensures that whatever your skill level, you will get personalized attention in this clinic. You will also benefit from receiving different instruction styles that may clear up a confusing aspect of the rolling process.
This course is designed for paddlers with a roll, looking to learn to playboat! Bring your own playboat (and if you don't have one, indicate your size during registration).
Please note we will also be hosting an instructor's only course later in the year!
Please see up to date event info at www.paddleuaps.com/film-fest. Ticket sales will open in December!

Since 2006, the Paddling Film Festival has been a highlight in over 130 cities around the globe, showcasing the finest paddling films. It motivates audiences to cherish their local waterways, venture into rivers, lakes, and oceans, and fully embrace the paddling lifestyle. The 2025 film line-up included whitewater paddling, canoeing, outrigger-canoeing, fishing, rafting, SUP, adaptive paddling, hiking, adventure, travelling, repelling, split boarding and more. The 2026 lineup will be announced in the new year! There are lots of door prizes to be won & silent auction items to be bid on!
We invite you to join us for the World Tour screening at the NAIT Shaw Theatre on Saturday, April 18. Doors will open in the lobby at 5 pm, with the film screening scheduled for 6:30 pm. Before the show, take part in our paddling fair in the lobby, where you can explore local retailers, discover how to safely start your paddling journey, learn essential skills for river outings, connect with local paddling clubs, and find out more about our provincial paddling associations. There will be AlleyKat craft beer, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase.
